The House Ethics Committee on Thursday released a scathing report on embattled Rep. George Santos, following its months-long investigation into the New York Republican’s actions that led to nearly two dozen pending criminal charges and repeated efforts to expel him from the House.
Santos pleaded not guilty, defended himself, and insisted on remaining in his position.
The 56-page report, written by an investigative subcommittee, details the 23 criminal charges against Santos, including conspiracy, wire fraud, false statements, falsifying records, aggravated identity theft and credit card fraud.
But the committee did not make a formal recommendation to the House on a range of sanctions that could be imposed on the new lawmaker, including expulsion — a move his New York GOP colleagues aim to renew after the Thanksgiving recess.
