Biden and the first lady head to a public prep school in the District of Columbia to welcome back students
Washington (AFP) – The President Joe Biden And First Lady Jill Biden visits a public middle school in the District of Columbia on Monday to welcome back students for the new school year.
The Bidens and his wife are heading to Eliot Hayne Middle School, located east of the US Capitol, to celebrate the first day of school in the District of Columbia for the 2023-24 school year. The event kicks off several back-to-school activities for the First Lady, who later in the week travels to the Midwest to celebrate educators and highlight students’ mental health needs.
Jill Biden is a longtime teacher. She is the first lady Continue her career outside the White House. She teaches English and writing at Northern Virginia Community College, where she taught during the eight years that her husband was Vice President Barack Obama.
The school was built in 1931 and has recently been modernized with state of the art facilities. It has about 300 students. According to its website, it focuses on rigorous academic, social, and emotional education, and receives federal funding to help support low-income students.
