MATAWAN — A town acupuncturist is facing charges of sexually assaulting a client.
Cowan, 57, who lives in Matawan and runs a clinic at Prosperity Health Center on Route 34, faces charges of second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Cowan announced. Santiago on Saturday. .

An investigation by the District Attorney’s Office Special Victims Bureau and the Matawan Police Department led to Cowan’s arrest on February 1. Cowan remains in the Monmouth County Jail awaiting his first court appearance, scheduled for Wednesday, February 7.
Cowan’s attorney could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday.
