A massive sports complex may be coming to Butler County
A huge sports complex can be headed to Butler County.
Commissioners just approved the feasibility study.
Commissioner Kevin Bozell tells Channel 11 there is a desire to create a “large-scale” Olympic-style event center in the county. He says it’s the perfect place.
“We’re not far from New York and we’re not far from Chicago, we’re kind of in the middle. I think there’s a tie between Allegheny and Philly. We consider that the central hub and we still have room to develop,” Bozell said.
The feasibility study will tell commissioners a lot, including what locations might make sense in the county.
“Of course, we have some sites in mind, but they’re just sites,” Bozell said. “We’re looking at areas that fit a certain size. Parking is also a big concern. Are you building it? Are you building it?”
If the plans are eventually approved, Bozell tells Channel 11 he doesn’t expect taxes to increase, citing private funds. It is unclear how much the project will cost.
“These things don’t happen overnight. They don’t happen within a year probably. It will probably take three to five years to get that Olympic style.”
The feasibility study is expected to be completed in March.
