California police said striking hotel workers were beaten with ball bearings while they were picketing


California police reported that strikers who picketed outside a Los Angeles hotel were pelted with steel ball bearings on at least two occasions.

There were a woman and a man on a picket line at a downtown hotel Struck by ball bearings About 10:15 a.m. on Jan. 21, the LAPD said in a Jan. 27 news release. They both suffered “minor” abrasions.

The balls again struck three men who were picketing the same hotel around 8:40 a.m. on January 22, police said. A man was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Investigators are asking the public for any information about the events and to help identify the suspect.

Labor disputes Hotels in the Los Angeles area have been going on since July, KNBC reported. Union officials told the station that workers are seeking higher wages, affordable health benefits and humane working conditions.

Hotel operators told KNBC they are working with the union to reach an agreement.
