A man is accused of raping a woman after breaking into her home in Ballantyne
A 32-year-old man is accused of breaking into a Ballantyne home and sexually assaulting a woman Wednesday morning, police said.
Officers responded to the home in the 10200 block of Chivalry Drive off Ballantyne Commons Parkway on a breaking and entering call.
The victim’s teenage child called 911 to say someone had broken into their home and was assaulting his mother downstairs.
“It was a very violent assault,” CMPD Chief Jonathan Thomas said.
They heard screaming inside and quickly detained Santerius Queshaun Allen.
“This was very rare for us to catch a violent criminal like this, red-handed, at the scene,” Thomas said.
Police said Allen broke into the woman’s home at about 10:30 a.m. through a window and raped her.
CMPD said the attack appeared random.
Police said the teen was not physically assaulted.
“This brave child was able to remain hidden by phone, staying on the phone with dispatchers until officers arrived,” CMPD Capt. Jimmy Ivey said. He added, “The officers were able to enter and were able to quickly arrest the suspect.”
