A Charlotte man who tried to help his son in a fatal I-485 truck crash


the Charlotte Fire Department He is mourning the loss of a retired fire captain who died after being struck by a car on the inner loop of I-485 in Mint Hill.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, The department announced That Captain Tony Moore of the Charlotte Fire Department was struck by a car Wednesday night.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. at Mile Marker 43 near Interstate 51, Charlotte Observer news partner reports. WSOC reported.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that a preliminary investigation revealed that the three-vehicle crash had been moved to the median, WSOC said. One of the drivers of those vehicles was Anthony Moore, who called his father Tony Moore.

Tony Moore came to the scene to assist. When he was dropped off, he tried to cross the highway and was struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck, WSOC said.

Moore died at the scene.
