A Georgia mayor faces 75 theft charges after embezzling city funds


A Georgia sheriff has been arrested in connection with the robbery investigation.

On October 20, Wilcox County Sheriff Steve Mauldin and District Attorney Brad Rigby asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the theft allegations.

Mayor Brandon Holt, 34, embezzled Pineview city funds, officials said.

On January 16, authorities arrested Holt and charged him with 75 counts of theft by taking.

He was booked into the Wilcox County Jail but has since been released on bail.

Holt said Channel 2 News That he was okay because he still had his life.

“At that moment I really thought my life was over,” Holt said, pointing to the left side of his stomach. “I got beat up here.”

The shooting happened on August 11 on Lafayette Parkway in LaGrange.
