Several buildings on the west side of Colorado State University’s main campus, including a few residence halls as well as Moby Arena and Canvas Stadium, experienced a power outage Wednesday morning that lasted about 40 minutes, a school spokesperson said.

CSU issued a safety alert just after 11 a.m. about the power outage, estimating it would take three hours to fix. Power was restored to all affected buildings by 11:25 a.m., spokesman Nick Olsen said. CSU Police first reported the power outage around 10:45 a.m., he said.

No information was immediately available about the cause of the service outage. Fort Collins Utilities spokesman Nick Combs said he assured CSU Utilities staff that the outage was due to an issue on their end and had nothing to do with the city’s utility service. There were no impacts to utility services for the rest of the city, Combs said, adding that he was at Canvas Stadium with other Fort Collins Utilities workers at their annual holiday gathering when the outage occurred.

The university said in a statement that the residence halls affected by the outage included Durward, Westphal, Summit, Ingersoll, Edwards, and Newsome. Safety guidelines posted on Xthe social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Wednesday was the first day of spring semester classes at California State University, following a weather shutdown Tuesday due to extreme cold. Monday was a college holiday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Olsen said the power was not related to a problem at the heating plant over the weekend that affected Newsom Hall, forcing university officials to provide temporary emergency housing in other buildings for students arriving for the start of the spring semester.

Olsen said CSU utility workers were working around the clock throughout the cold snap over the weekend to monitor and fix infrastructure problems that occurred as quickly as possible. Temperatures Sunday night and Monday night in Fort Collins were well below zero.
