Chicago police said a 24-year-old man was fatally injured overnight on the Southwest Side

A 24-year-old man was fatally wounded Monday night in a drive-by shooting on the Southwest Side, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 1 a.m., the victim was getting out of the car when a black SUV approached the 2300 block of West 18th Street and someone inside opened fire in the man’s direction.

Police said that the victim suffered nine gunshot wounds to the body, and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

He has been identified as Miguel De Villegas from the same building where he was shot, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
