An officer shoots an armed bank robbery suspect at the busy Rock Hill Mall
An armed bank robbery suspect was shot by an officer at about 7:30 p.m. Monday at a Rock Hill shopping center, police said.
Earlier, at around 6 pm, police said a person with a gun robbed the PNC Bank on India Hook Road and fled after getting some cash.
Later, officers saw a person matching the suspect’s description at Melwood Shopping Center on Herlong Street at Ebenezer Road.
The officers tried to stop the suspect, who was on a bicycle. He got down and showed a gun. That’s when the officers fired their weapons.
Solomon White was working inside a nearby Jimmy John’s store.
“I went to pick up the trash and open the door, and I just heard a bunch of shots,” White said. “Maybe about a handful of shots. Maybe a block at a time.”
Officers shot the suspect. He dropped the gun and fell to the ground. Officers took him into custody and transported him to Piedmont Medical Center.
Several evidence markers were placed in the parking lot where shell casings fell.
“I ran inside as soon as I heard the gunfire, initially, just so I could make sure everyone was okay because we didn’t know if the shooter was active or not,” White said.
A woman who works at a nail salon said Channel 9 officers stopped by after the shooting.
“They just came over and made sure we were okay and then they went out and now they are escorting us to our cars,” she said by phone. “There were a lot of cars around. There seemed to be a lot of things going on, so we’re just trying to figure out what’s going on.”
No officers were injured.

There was no threat to the public, and police asked to avoid the area during the investigation.
“It’s interesting to see that side of things, but I wish everyone would have said all the officers were OK,” White said. “So I pray for everyone’s safety. “If anyone is hurt, I pray for their family.”
No further information was revealed.
