A man collapsed inside a northwest Miami-Dade Sedano’s supermarket after being shot outside the shopping center, police said Saturday.

The injured person is in hospital in critical condition, and the police are searching for the shooter.

“We are glad that since this was a daylight shooting, no one else was injured,” Miami-Dade Police said. Andre Martin, the agency’s official spokesman.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., the man, who has not been identified, was driving a pickup truck to the Vistas Mall at 6400 NW 186th St. Moments later, another person approached the truck, pulled out a gun and opened fire, Martin said.

Police said that the identity of the shooter was not yet known, and it was not clear whether the gunman was following the truck or if he was already present in the shopping center. The shooter left the mall after the incident.

The wounded man left his truck and went to two businesses in the shopping center looking for help. Police said he eventually collapsed inside the Sedano Hotel.

He was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial in critical but stable condition, Martin said.

“This happened in the morning, with a lot of people in the shopping centre,” Martin said. “We definitely want people to reach out to us if they know something.”

Those with information about the shooting are asked to contact the Miami-Dade Police Department at 305-579-6111.
