One of the inmates who escaped, A Georgia prison Last month and the woman who allegedly helped him face federal charges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia Announced in a press release Thursday.

Jennifer Dernard Barnwell, 37, faces a charge of escaping from custody, and Janesia Green, 30, faces a charge of aiding the escape of an incarcerated person. Both Barnwell and Green are from Macon, Georgia. Both charges carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Authorities did not provide details about how Green was helped to escape.

Barnwell was arrested Sunday morning after remaining in a comatose state for nearly a month, the Bibb County Sheriff said in a news release. The Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit, the FBI, and their SWAT team found Barnwell at a home in Augusta, Georgia, with “large amounts of contraband drugs.”

Barnwell was being held in the Bibbs County Jail awaiting sentencing following a federal drug conviction for which he was expected to receive a significant prison sentence, the sheriff’s office said.

On October 16, authorities said he and three other inmates jumped from a destroyed window in a day room and then escaped through a downed fence.

Video footage of the escape that day showed a blue Dodge Challenger outside the prison at 3 a.m. local time. The video also showed an individual repairing the fence and bringing some items to the area.

The next day, authorities found… Blue Dodge Challenger in Macon, a city about 80 miles southeast of Atlanta. The car was parked in the parking lot of Biotmat USA, a blood and plasma donation center.

In addition to Barnwell, Chavis Demario Stokes, 29, who was arrested for firearm possession and drug trafficking, were arrested on October 26; Mark Kerry Anderson, 25, who was in jail on a charge of aggravated assault, was arrested Nov. 3.

Authorities are still searching for Joey Fournierwho was being held on a murder charge in connection with the 2022 death of his ex-girlfriend.

Barnwell first appeared in Augusta, Georgia, on November 13, and was remanded into custody by the US Marshals Service, the US police force. A press release said. USMS will transport Barnwell to the Middle District of Georgia for further court proceedings.

Green made her first appearance in Macon on Nov. 15, and was being held without bail. Her detention hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21 to determine her future bond status.
