The shooting happened at Andy Romano Beachfront Park at Millsap Road and South Atlantic Avenue, police said.
Police said they responded just before 4 p.m. after a community service worker called for backup after investigators said a woman began hitting his car and making threats about having weapons. After the CSO pursued the woman, officers said she jumped on the hood of the car and then fled to her car, using it to repeatedly ram the CSO’s vehicle.
When officers arrived, they said the woman got out of her car holding a knife. Police said the woman attacked two officers with the knife above her head. That’s when police say an officer shot the woman.
The woman continued to walk toward officers, and a second shot was fired, striking the woman, police said.
Police said officers at the scene immediately began providing assistance to the woman, who was taken to the hospital.
Police said no officers were injured and that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement would investigate the shooting, which is standard practice in officer-involved shootings.
