A woman was found dead from physical trauma near Kansas City’s Don Park on Tuesday evening

Kansas City police were investigating a homicide Tuesday night after a woman’s body was discovered in an apartment building near Dunn Park in the Neighbors United for Action neighborhood.

Police officers were dispatched around 9 p.m. to a medical call, the nature of which was unknown, near the corner of East 65th Street and The Paseo, said Capt. Corey Carlisle, a department spokesman. The 911 call was made by someone who noticed the woman on the ground, Carlisle said.

Arriving officers discovered the woman on the grass near the sidewalk with no signs of life. Carlisle said she suffered some type of physical trauma, the cause of which police did not immediately know.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office was assigned to identify her injuries.

Police have not publicly identified the woman. There is no known suspect, and police do not believe there is an immediate danger to the public Tuesday night, Carlisle said.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was found with gunshot wounds on the sidewalk near East 44th Street and Montgall Avenue. He was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead there. Police said late Tuesday that two people of interest had been taken into custody in the case.
