A Tacoma police officer exchanged gunfire with a wanted man who refused to stop Wednesday morning.

The incident began with a local nuisance call in the 5700 Building on North 33rd Street at about 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to Tacoma Police Officer Shelby Boyd..

When the officers arrived, the suspect had already left.

At approximately 3:15 a.m., a Tacoma officer spotted the man’s car or truck on Precinct 37 and McCarver and attempted to stop it, but the driver refused to stop.

The man led the officer on a short chase through North Tacoma. During the chase, the man fired at the officer’s car, and the officer returned fire. No one was hurt.

Shortly after, the man was taken into custody on North 32nd Street between North Stephens and North Tyler Streets.

“What I would say is if anyone wakes up in the morning and they have video surveillance, or any kind of evidence, please call us,” Boyd said.

The man may be charged with burglary, assault, and felony harassment.
