A vehicle was stolen over the weekend with an unattended baby inside, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the 1200 block of Northwest 31st Avenue in unincorporated Central Broward just before 4 p.m. Saturday.
The 21-month-old child was inside the vehicle when it was stolen, and was found safe “a short time later,” the sheriff’s office reported.
Witnesses say they found the baby abandoned on the side of the road and called the police, WSVN-Channel 7 reported. BSO has not confirmed how the child was found.
It’s unclear how the child ended up alone in the vehicle. BSO refused to say whether a parent will face child endangerment charges.
As of Tuesday, BSO has not announced any suspects in the carjacking. Detectives with BSO’s Special Victims Unit are investigating.
