Eleven people have been hospitalized after a Delta flight experienced severe turbulence
At least 11 people have been taken to hospital after a Delta Airlines plane hit severe turbulence as it approached Atlanta, Delta Airlines said.
Both passengers and crew members were infected after Delta Flight 175 coming from Milan. Italy The airline said in a statement that the plane “experienced with severe turbulence” before it landed safely in Atlanta on Tuesday.
It was not immediately clear how serious their injuries were. Delta did not immediately respond to a request from NBC News for more information.
The plane was about 40 miles northeast of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when the crew reported severe turbulence, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which said it would investigate.
The Airbus A350 landed safely at the airport shortly before 7 p.m., according to the Associated Press.
The airline said the plane was carrying 151 passengers and 14 crew.
She added that the paramedics met the plane upon its arrival to provide medical care and transfer the injured to the hospital.
Delta noted that US agents and Border Protection have taken care to ensure passengers needing medical attention have “appropriate authorization.”
The airline said it was working to communicate with customers who were on the flight.
“Our priority is the care of our customers and crew who have been injured,” Delta said.
